Crash Analysis
Similar to traffic counts, crash data is collected
from local and state agencies and analyzed both
statistically and geographically to view problem areas
throughout the community. Analyzing crash data can help
planners and engineers identify safety improvements to
the transportation network by reviewing how and why
accidents occurred. Roadway safety can be improved by
improving sight lines, adding turn lanes, improving
signalization, improving warning signage, etc.

Beginning December 1, 2009, motorists involved in motor vehicle crashes in Georgia
will now be able to abtain a copy of their crash report quickly via Georgia's new online
service www.BuyCrash.com. The online reports will vary in cost starting at $5 depending
on the reporting law enforcement agency, compared to $5 flat fee via U.S. mail. Users can
search for their crash reports utilizing a number of search options including their name, date
of crash, road of occurrence and VIN. This new service is made possible through a partnership
with Open Portal Solutions (OPS) and Georgia DOT. Half of the online fee will go to the law
enforcement agency completing the report while the rest will go to OPS.
