Community & Economic Development

Through its Community Development Program the SGRC provides technical assistance to local governments in comprehensive planning, local development regulations and other specialized planning studies. The Community Development program also provides information and public policy options to local governments based on sound research and analysis. Community Development activities focus on fulfilling the region's vision and goals as well as the protection of the region's environmental and cultural resources.

In 2002, the SGRC was designated as the Metropolitan Planning Organization on behalf of Valdosta and Lowndes County.

SGRC's Economic Development Program focuses on the improvement of the economic condition of both businesses and communities in Southern Georgia. This program facilitates local and regional projects that promote economic development and job creation as well as the planning and development of industrial park sites. The Economic Development program also provides research and marketing services for communities to draw new business in to the area.
